Artist Ebony Dare painting her dog

Ebony Dare - ARTIST. Born in 1993,

Ebony has lived in Australia, Victoria all of her life. Growing up in Montmorency and Eltham, she was always the shy 'art kid' at her school, excelling in all types of arts and crafts. Even winning some school awards for her artworks. Heavily inspired by animated movies growing up, such as The Lion King, Tarzan, Charlotte's Web and Watership Down - she decided to start drawing at an early age. She is almost entirely self-taught, though took a few extracurricular art classes and courses throughout her life. After dabbling in needle felt sculpting, digital art, traditional drawing, watercolour art - she always returned to her favourite art medium, oil paints.

After moving to the Peninsula in her early 20's, Ebony went on to complete a Certificate 3 and Diploma course in Visual Arts at Chisholm Institute. There she learned valuable skills, such as drawing from life, proper composition, lighting and colour usage.

Ebony moved around a bit for a few years. From Hastings, to Somers, to Mornington, to Phillip Island and back again - Mornington is where she currently resides and hopes to stay for a long time. Always taking with her; her Shih Tzu, Dudley. After 12 years of companionship, Dudley is the centre of her universe, and the inspiration behind many of her artworks. Having had various pets all her life, animals have been Ebony's life-long passion and obsession. They remain her favourite subjects when painting, as each have their own unique personalities, expressions and quirks.

Ebony prides herself in capturing the essence of each unique soul in her paintings, both wild and domestic. Spending many years perfecting her craft to make each portrait as realistic as possible. Although animals are her favourite subject, she also enjoys painting nature and landscapes, particularly the ocean and rocky coasts.

As of 2023, with multiple commissions under her belt, Ebony decided to open a pet/animal painting business to anyone who wishes to get their very own custom painted portrait of their beloved pet or (natural) subject of choice. Either as a memorial, an appreciation piece or as a decoration. With her home art studio, she uses oil paints on canvas board to bring an animal photo to life. She doesn't paint people, however. Ebony hopes to connect with as many animal/pet owners and enthusiasts as possible in the near future with this new and exciting business venture.
