FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESIONS

How long does a commission painting take to complete?

It depends greatly on the size of the canvas, the number of subjects, the complexity, how long the paint takes to dry, current workload etc. Usually between 3-5 weeks.

What kind of photo reference does Ebony need?

Ebony needs a good, clear photo of the subject. Preferably a front-on shot of the subject's face and shoulders. Preferably nothing obstructing the view of the face, unless intentional. Good lighting in the photo is essential (unless stylised, i.e mood lighting). Please send Ebony many good quality photos of the subject that would look good as a painting.

Can Ebony paint people?

Ebony paints animals and natural landscapes only. No human figures.

When do I pay?

A 50% deposit is required before Ebony starts painting, this covers the cost of materials and time spent. The other 50% is paid upon completion and approval. Full payment is needed before the painting can be delivered to you.

What materials does Ebony use?

She uses high quality oil paints on canvas boards. The final piece is sealed with a gloss varnish to protect the paint layers.

Do I get to see the painting before receiving it?

The default setting of the commission process is that regular WIP photos will be sent to you throughout the production of the painting. However, you can request not to see progress photos if you wish the reveal to be a surprise.

Can Ebony deliver the painting to me?

Though personal pick up is preferred, Ebony can send the painting through the post if needed. The painting will be bubble-wrapped carefully and sent in a secure box to your preferred location. They will be shipped with insurance and tracking via Australia Post. Estimated time of delivery is 3-7 business days in Australia.

Will I need to pay for shipping?

Postage fee will be only $5 for any and all Australian locations. International postage is available, please contact Ebony for a quote.

Will the painting be framed?

Framing is not included in the commission price. However, Ebony can organise framing at an extra cost.

Can Ebony work with old photographs?

Although modern/digitised and clear photos are preferred, sometimes an old physical photo can be used. Ebony has previously worked with only an old developed photo, as the animal subject passed away before the advancement of digital photography. It's more difficult, and the photo would still need to be as clear as possible, but allowances can sometimes be made. Please contact Ebony to see if it can work.
